12 Shopping Tips for Women at the Mall
Shop Until You Drop the Right Way
I withdraw my overdraft.

Shopping at the mall is one of my favorite pastimes. However, some people actually hate shopping at the mall and avoid it at all costs. If you’re one of those people who think that mall shopping is a necessary evil, you may find the following tips conducive to a more pleasant and less stressful shopping experience. Even people who don’t mind shopping at the mall may pick up a few tips that will make their next trip to the mall an even better one.

Shopping Tip #1

Arrive during the first hour that the mall opens. You are guaranteed a choice parking spot. If it’s a hot and sunny day, park under some shade. If it’s a cold or rainy day, park near the entrance of the mall. If your shopping excursion will not conclude until later in the evening, park under a well lit area for safety.

Shopping Tip #2

Thursday and Friday mornings are a great time to shop. Many stores start their weekend sales on these days. You can purchase your items on sale minus the rush and crowds of Saturday sale shoppers.

Shopping Tip #3

Leave your coat in the car. Inevitably, you’ll warm up while shopping and take off your coat anyway. Do you really want the extra burden of carrying your coat everywhere you go? If you followed shopping tip #1, you shouldn’t have a far walk into or out of the mall on the coldest of days.

Shopping Tip #4
Wear a button down long sleeve shirt. You can unbutton your shirt when trying on different outfits in the dressing room without messing up your hair or getting lipstick and/or foundation on your clothing.

Shopping Tip #5

Bring a touch up kit in your purse: concealer, lipstick/lip balm, small comb and blotting papers. Changing in and out of clothing all day is bound to get you a bit disheveled.

Shopping Tip #6
Wear undergarments that match your skin tone. With nude hued bras and panties, you can try on any color of clothing without your bra or panties showing. This will give you the most accurate look of how your clothing will appear without the distracting black bra under a white shirt syndrome.

Shopping Tip #7

Store all of your coupons in one pocket of your purse. Don’t you love those free panties with any purchase offers or $30.00 off any $75.00 purchase coupons? Me too. Keep the coupons in a special compartment of your purse so that you can find them easily when needed.

Shopping Tip #8

If you have a favorite place at the mall that you always stop by for snacks, ask for a rewards card. For instance, I rarely make a trip to the mall without a stop at Auntie Anne’s Pretzels. For every six pretzels that I buy, I get the 7th one free. I've gotten a ton of free pretzels this way.

Shopping Tip #9

Keep your receipts in the same place in your wallet or purse. Usually, the cashier will ask whether or not you want to keep the receipt with you. Always say yes, or ask for it if she does not offer. Your receipt is much more likely to get lost, thrown away or misplaced if you keep it in the bag.

Shopping Tip #10

Ask to put your item in question on hold. Most stores have a one to three day hold policy. I do this when I begin shopping and find a dress that I like, but I still want to check out other stores for something better. This guarantees that the dress will still be there at the end of the day if I decide to purchase it.

Shopping Tip #11

Know when to buy. If you see an item that you absolutely love and there is only one in your size left, ask the salesperson if there are any others in the back or if any of their other stores carry it. If the answer is no, buy it. It feels awful to revisit a store only to find out that your coveted item was just bought by someone else.

Shopping Tip #12

Ask about price adjustments. Most stores allow a 14-day price adjustment. If an item of clothing that you buy goes on sale within the allotted days of price adjustment, the store will credit you with the difference.

Bonus Tip
Make use of the customer service desk at the mall. The people who work at this desk can answer all sorts of questions about the mall including the location of an ATM, location of a store, information about mall events and the name of restaurants with a type of food that you specify. They can even give you change.
